Hello everybody,
As summer draws to a close, we are gearing up for the Berlin Art Week. Anna Lucia has thoughtfully prepared a digital art agenda to keep you informed of the various openings and exhibitions shaping the week. Feel free to comment in the doc if you think an event is missing.
The TAKEOVER initiative proudly joins the lineup for this exciting week; on Thursday, 12 September, our fourth TAKEOVER will start. We are happy to share with you that Jiwa will present The Slide. The vernissage will take place Thursday evening from 7 PM, and the exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, 13 September through Sunday, 15 September, with viewing hours from 1 PM to 5 PM daily.
About the exhibition
The Slide is the debut work from the algorithmic illustration system that Jiwa has been working on, facilitating a space to create works by hand and code. The Slide is a bridge from the classical into a new realm of digital possibility. Jiwa turns The Mill by Rembrandt digital as a starting point for this new journey of algorithmic animated illustration. Whenever the artwork is loaded, it renders with randomness, creating endless subtle variations.
In the spirit of childlike play, Jiwa jumped into metalworking to create a physical slide that will serve as both a sculpture and an interactive instrument. This participatory element invites the audience to directly engage with the code-based artwork, leaving their mark on it in real-time. The live animation is the result of an exploration of gpu-based techniques, many of which will never be used again.
Sparked by a father's joy, The Slide considers the accessibility of joy and openness in our everyday lives.
Jiwa is a predominantly code-based artist, creating systems to tell narratives about inner worlds. Previous works include PETLS, a five-chapter generative narrative, Axo released on Art Blocks, and recently, EVENT, a collaboration with contemporary artist Bernar Venet, releasing on Sotheby's in the fall.
Join us at the fourth TAKEOVER event happening this week during Berlin Art Week at the gallery! Drop by, say hi, hangout with old friends or connect with new friends.
We hope to see you there!
