Last week, on June 20th, we opened the gallery doors at Auguststrasse 86 for the first Takeover event. There was a nice turnout, a mix of familiar faces and people new to the space, and good vibes all around.
During the first Takeover, two new works by Anna and Julian occupied the screens in the front room. The back was reserved for a floating altar of responsive and animated generative art. Every 15 minutes, four screens were taken over by a generative artwork from a different artist, each screen displaying a different iteration of the same algorithm. A congregation of people surrounded the screens. Naturally, the chatting lowered to a whisper while people stared down at the ever-evolving pixels.
On show were a diverse range of artists, including Mario Carillo, jiwa, loackme, Ella, Kim Asendorf, Rudxane, Julian Hespenheide, p1xelfoool, Anna Lucia, Raphaël de Courville, and Daeinc. We are very grateful for being able to show the work of each artist participating and it was beautiful sight to watch works from the same collection or algorithm right next to each other.
TAKEOVER No. 2
Announcement
Next week, July 3rd, we are back for our second Takeover. This time, artists River Davis and YUYU, along with curator Alex Aravantinos, present two thought-provoking AI collections reflecting on the city's decades-long activity regarding political freedoms and expressions of the self. The two experimental post-photography collections derive from the artist's previous work and establish a dialogue exploring Berlin's recent history as a global capital for cultural expression and underground experiences.
The exhibition will coincide with the international conference Generative Art Summit: From Camera to Artificial Intelligence 1952-2024, hosted by the Foundation Herbert W. Franke (3-6 July 2024).
